Chinese traditional herbal remedies for beauty and beauty care has a long history that dated back to the ancient times, and some favored by famous historical figures, particularly the Empress Dowager Cixi. Here are three of the more well-known beauty foods that are commonly found in our everyday menu.

Snow Fungus

The Snow Fungus is a highly nutritious fungus, popularly used in sweet desserts, and sometimes soup. It contains about 17 types of protein, fat and various amino acids, minerals (calcium, iron, phosphorus etc) and glycogen (trehalose, pentosan, and mannitol). It is a high-quality tonic and is commonly used in food for beauty care.

 

Red Dates

“Three dates a day keeps wrinkles away.” And this is not just a myth. Red dates, a special species of its family found mainly in China, where its medical properties and uses in Chinese culinary have been documented from an early age. Replenishing ‘qi’, nourishing the blood, strengthens the body, and also the cure for various ailments is some of the more common properties of red dates.

 

Guilinggao  

This time-honored remedy is said to be a precious medicine prepared for the emperors alone of the Qing Dynasty. While it has a wide range of properties, it is the properties of treating yin deficiency, preserving a good look and refreshing oneself that makes it a popular and easy-to-obtain beauty care food.
