Father of the Bride: His Role in a Wedding |

In today’s contemporary wedding, most of them no longer observe the dowry custom, but a father can help to pay for some of the wedding preparations. Here are some areas which will require the father’s help:
- Set a budget While the major decision making is done by the bride, or the mother (his wife), he can help sort out the financial resources available and outline a budget guideline—being the breadwinner of the family, thus knowing exactly how much the flow of income is.
- Find Alternatives When some ideas didn’t go as planned, or couldn’t be done, the father can help come up with an alternative solution. An example would be lending out his car for the wedding instead of going to the car rental service.
- Keep Punctual Timing Sometimes, when there is not much to help around, the best thing to do is show up on time for every occasion that requires the presence of the bride’s father—the actual ceremony, the reception, and the tea ceremony (in traditional Chinese weddings).
